David Delderfield: Mr

Dear Andy and Matt

I picked up the news item from the midday edition of Midlands Today of 26 May.

I and a colleague in Belgium have made an in depth study of 48th (South Midlands) Divn, of which 516 Coy [Ammunition] RASC was a component unit.

I have a copy of 516 Coy [reconstituted] War Diary for 01.05.1940 to 31.05.1940, as well as information relating to the activities of 516 Coy for the period 19 to 22 May 1940 [The Battle of The Escaut]. We were assisted by Dvr Phillip Malins 517 [Petrol] Coy latterly Capt P Malins MC RIASC.

If you want to contact me, in the first instance, my email address is david.delderfield01@googlemail.com

Best Wishes

David

Thanks for that David will get in touch when I get back.

Guest: Best of luck!

Wishing you all the best! I was delighted to read Mr Frizzell's account of evacuation on HMS Winchelsea as my father was serving on her at the time (indeed was mentioned in dispatches for his actions) and this is the first time I've read anything by any of the 4017 soldiers who were brought back to England on 6 trips.

ANDY Replies:

I'm delighted that someone is connected with our 'quest' The more I think about it the more our trip is becoming a 'scary' reality. I'm quite emotional about it every time I think about the walk up to the 'Eastern Mole' heaven knows what i'll be like on the day when we do it! A multitude of emotions no doubt.

Andy Frizzell: Leave us a message

Andy Frizzell and Matt Charnick are going to walk from Oost Cappel to Dunkerque via Hondschoote and Bray Dunes in Northern France in aid of Help for Heroes and in honour of the troops who never made it home in May 1940 and to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dunkerque evacuation.

Please leave us a message we look forward to your encouragement and I will need some sort of substitute for fitness Laughing

There will be a short delay before your message is displayed so that we can make sure it is suitable for general viewing Wink
