Closing Down

E-mail Print

Now that our fund-raising for Help for Heroes has run it's course and we've achieved a considerably bigger amount of cash than we had ever hoped we feel that now is the time to close our Just giving page and eventually close this site down. Once we have done that we will be re-building it into something new for our family to communicate with each other, a blog site perhaps.

Thanks to all those who have made a donation to this worthy cause. If you haven't contributed yet you can leave us a message and we will contact you on where to send your cheque for Help for Heroes.

Thank You.

Andy, Matt, Charlie and all our families who helped us help for heroes.

Target realised

A Big Thank You to everyone who has made a donation, to date together we have raised:-

 £1464

Meaning our target has been surpassed! With Gift Aid added the total is:-

£1773.41*

How far can we go ?

Can you make it

£2000

*Just Giving charge all charities a 5% handling fee. Whether you are a UK tax payer or not just giving forward all of your donation to the Charity, in our case Help for Heroes. If you have declared that you are a UK tax payer they then claim Gift aid on your behalf from the government. When they receive this money they deduct the fee from that then forward the rest to the Charity. Rest assured that none of your original donation goes anywhere other than Help for Heroes.

We're back from the walk and very pleased to announce that we have exceeded our target. Many thanks to all who have made a donation. We are keeping our just giving page open for a few months yet so that you can still make a donation to Help for Heroes.

A full account of our walk, pictures and video will be posted on this site when we have organised them so you can see what we did for our memories and chosen Charity.

If you haven't yet made a donation you still can on our just giving page at:-

Justgiving.com/40000steps

Our just giving page will remain open until the end of September

40,000 Steps to Dunkerque

E-mail Print

Help us raise funds for Help for Heroes

In May 2010 Andy Frizzell and Matt Charnick will be retracing the steps that John George Frizzell (Jack) a driver in the British Expeditionary Force (BEF). JGF my father and Matt's Grandfather was part of the retreat from the advancing German forces in May/June 1940. He and his close unit of drivers had to abandon their vehicles some 25 - 30Km from Dunkerque and walk to Bray Dunes to make their escape from the beach between Bray Dunes and Dunkerque harbour.

After several days of trying to board one of the many 'small boats' and ships ferrying the 300,000+ troops home to safety and with little food and water he eventually ended up on the Eastern Harbour 'Mole' where he was able to board HMS Winchelsea.

Our walk is a rough approximation of his march but we do know that he did walk from around 25Km from Dunkerque passing through Hondschoote where he had to cross the Colme canal on a rope bridge courtesy of the Royal Engineers as the main bridge had been destroyed. He then went on to Bray Dunes to be told to 'find a line and join it'

Our walk will be approximately 30Km and will be roughly 35,000 - 40,000 steps, hence the name we've coined.

You can read John Frizzell's story of events from start to finish by clicking on 'A few days at the seaside' in the top menu.

You can now download our H4H approved poster by clicking 'publicity poster' in the links menu.

If you are moved to make a donation to Help for Heroes please go to our just giving page at:-

for some of us the last summer ever."
